Singapore Airlines Premium Economy Review - Vancouver to Singapore on the Airbus A350-900

I’ve flown Singapore Airlines in the past (from Denpasar, Bali to Singapore) and was very impressed by the food and service. So I was very excited to hear Singapore Airlines launched their new direct route from Vancouver, Canada to Singapore with their Airbus A350-900.

These flights were hosted in conjunction with the Thailand Tourism Authority, writing or filming my experience wasn’t a requirement, however I did want to do so.

Checking In

I did check in just after 10:00am at the Vancouver International Airport. Because I arrived about three hours before the flight there wasn’t a long line to check in. It did take about twenty minutes to check in with the agent once I was at the counter as she had to go through all my documents for entry into Thailand and make sure that everything was in order. As Singapore changed the requirements for persons transiting through Singapore, I only needed the PCR test for Thailand, not for Singapore as I wasn’t “entering” Singapore. Please note, these were the entry requirements based on when I travelled to Singapore as a Canadian citizen. Once my documents were all checked over, I received my boarding pass and headed to the Plaza Premium Lounge for lunch.

Upgraded to Premium Economy

Right before boarding my name was called to the desk at the gate and I had an extremely pleasant surprised that I was upgraded to Premium Economy. I was so excited to try Singapore Airlines Premium Economy especially on such a long haul flight.

Boarding Experience

Once they called boarding, it was very quick and we actually were boarded along side the Business Class passengers as it wasn’t a full flight. As we boarded our flight, they had “care kits” that you could grab yourself at the end of the jet bridge. Once settled into my seat it was time to check out the equipment and seats in Singapore Airlines Premium Economy.

The PremiumEconomy Cabin

Singapore Airlines Premium Economy on this aircraft was a two by four by two configuration with a total of 24 seats. Unfortunately there was not a dedicated toilet in our cabin, however we walked about ten rows back to the main economy toilets (these toilets were kept in very clean condition throughout the flight).

My Seat

I was assigned an aisle seat (33G), I do typically like to sit at a window, however at least having an aisle seat gave me access to be able to get up, use the washroom and stretch. The seat was very comfortable and even though it was the last row my seat fully reclined. The screen in the back of the seat was about the same size as my 13 inch MacBook Air screen, which was great. We were also provided with noise cancelling premium headphones, they definitely worked, drowned out the snores from the passenger a couple rows away. The seat had a USB outlet beside the screen, a coat hook (which I used as a mask hook during meals), access to a universal outlet, a fold away tray table that was stored on one of the arm rests and a bottle holder. I was also provided with a pillow and blanket at my seat. The entertainment available was really good with many new release movies available. In Premium Economy I could also access two hours of complementary internet. The seat width in Premium Economy on Singapore Airlines is 19.5" wide and has a seat pitch of 38". The seats also had a very decent recline.

Dining and Drinks

About an hour after take off our first drinks service followed by “lunch” was served. Unfortunately they are not serving “welcome drinks” in premium economy on Singapore Airlines at this time. They also had QR codes for the menus and no paper menus were given out in Premium Economy at the time of my flight. I had the “Makai Sweetcorn Chat” for a salad, “Butter Chicken” for lunch with basmati rice and carrot cake for dessert. I had it along with some red wine and afterwards a coffee with Bailey’s.

There were snacks available throughout the flight, I basically took a walk to the galley at the back of the plane to stretch my legs after every movie (so every couple hours or so) and pick up a snack or two on the way back to my seat. I did order a pot of noodles about half way through the flight and it was quite good.

Dinner was served about two hours before landing into Singapore and I had the "Beef Pastrami on Coleslaw" with the Teriyaki Chicken as my main course. The dessert was a "Triple Chocolate Cake" which was delicious. Unfortunately no ice cream was served on this flight and I do miss that.

Amenity Kit

Upon request, you can receive an amenity kit with socks, a toothbrush, toothpaste and a lip balm.

The Flight Overall

The flight time from Vancouver to Singapore was 16 hours and 50 minutes, so almost a 17 hour flight. The staff were amazing. I actually really love Singapore Airlines as an airline.

Singapore Airlines is part of Star Alliance, so if you're collector member of Star Alliance (I collect Aeroplan points), it's a great option to travel to Asia to keep within the alliance for membership and status reasons.

I hope you enjoyed this flight review of my experience with Singapore Airlines in Premium Economy. Now that they are flying from Vancouver to Singapore, it's a great option for us here on the west coast of Canada to get to Asia and can't wait to fly them again in the future.

Safe Travels,

Ariane
